COURSE SUMMARY
The CPB medical billing credential is vital to the financial success of the professional healthcare services claims process. AAPC training ensures students have the knowledge to pass the certification exam and the necessary job competencies to succeed in their medical billing career.
The instructional methods used include reading assignments, practice exercises, practical applications, interactive video/audio lectures, and chapter review tests to ensure a well-rounded learning experience.
Once students have completed the competency training, they will have the necessary skills and knowledge to challenge the certification exam. By successfully passing this exam, students will be awarded the CPB credential.
- Review an introduction to healthcare from a medical billing perspective.
- List a variety of health insurance models and how they affect medical entities.
- Understand the legal regulatory considerations involved in health care reimbursement and collections.
- Explain the process of a physician-based insurance claim including obtaining patient data, claim form completion, insurance carrier processing and payment received.
- Demonstrate the ability to use the three major coding manuals, CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II, and apply medical necessity standards.
- Explain the follow up process for A/R in a physician’s office, including the top denials by insurance carrier along with their appeals process.

TRAINING OPTIONS
Online instructor-led training
Students follow a structured schedule using the online course as their primary learning method. However, you will also attend live weekly review classes virtually with your AAPC instructor. Instructors will also hold regular office hours where students can schedule time to meet virtually with their instructors for additional help. Students will need access to a computer with reliable high-speed internet and webcam.
